History’s remembrance of Howard Hughes has a tendency to not remember the complete man. Hughes had a number of successes that put him in history books, but there was a more troubled side of him that we tend to downplay or forget. His struggles with mental illness were great, and to not understand this, is to not understand Howard Hughes on a fundamental level.

When discovering the legend of Howard Hughes, the Arabian proverb “Judge a man by the reputation of his enemies” comes to mind. One of Hughes most notable enemies, the man who tried to ruin his aviation empire, was Senator Owen Brewster.
One of the most memorable parts of Howard’s character was his proclivity for womanizing with the actresses of his day. However many relationships he had with these actresses, the one that changed Hughes the most, was his relationship with Katharine Hepburn.
